Coach Kelly continues building team, summer camp starts this weekend

Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly held the first press conference of the football season on Friday. The team will begin summer training camp at Culver Academies this weekend.

The team is coming off a great season and an appearance in the college playoffs.

This week's camp starts off Coach Kelly's tenth season at Notre Dame. He says he has learned a lot in that time and he's just as hungry now as he was in 2009.

“Ten years anywhere is a journey that you just have to be able to learn, keep working on yourself, and keep pushing the envelope too at the same time. Never get satisfied. We got a taste of what it's like to be in the playoffs. I want to win the darn thing," Coach Kelly said.

Coach Kelly says while they are looking to fill holes on the defensive and offensive line, they don't need to rebuild at the quarterback position.

He says Phil Jurkovec is developing and building confidence and expects to see great things from the sophomore quarterback.

The coach added Ian Book is poised to be the team leader this season.

"He's just doing such a great job leading. His presence is one where, when he asks some people to do things, they're doing it. The respect that he has is different than last year. You know, he didn't start the year as our starting quarterback, so there's just a different, he walks around the building a little different, great confidence in him," Coach Kelly said.

The players report to Culver Military Academy Saturday and camp officially opens Sunday.
