'Coldest Night of the Year' walk returns locally to raise money for the homeless
Emergency Shelter Services of Berrien County BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Emergency Shelter Services of Berrien County will again be host to the "Coldest Night of the Year" winter fundraising walk in Benton Harbor on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m.
The funds raised will support people experiencing hunger, hurt, and homelessness.
CNOY has become national tradition with events happening in over 300 communities.
The walk begins and ends at The Secret Garden at the Harbor and offers both 2 km and 5 km routes.
Walkers will be treated to hot drinks before celebrating together at the finish line.
Fundraisers who raise $150 (adults) or $75 (youth) receive a CNOY beanie.
Organizers say this year's fundraising goal is $40,000. Currently, the fundraiser has reached 84 percent of the goal.
In 2025, 92 walkers participated, supported by local sponsors including Peat’s Cider Social, The Secret Garden, Renaissance Athletic Club, Tomato Bliss, and Jet’s Pizza.
“CNOY is a highlight of the year for us and critical to our annual budget” said Sarah Eades, CNOY Event Director and Board Vice President. “It unites our community and fuels our mission to serve those who need it most. We’re inviting everyone in to walk and fundraise with us and make a difference - it's cold out there!”
You can still register for the walk on the "Coldest Night of the Year" website.
Secret Garden at the Harbor is located at 209 W. Main St. in Benton Harbor.
