Milder but wetter conditions this weekend
COLOMA, Mich. -- Coloma High School students performed free oil changes for community members on Thursday.
Students participating in the Automotive Technology class partnered with members of the school’s National Honor Society to make it all happen.
The auto shop class is an elective, but students can also earn academic credit through the program.
Students typically work on services that get them ready for college-level work later on.
The invite-only event took place from 3-6 p.m. in the auto shop at Coloma High School.
For the first trial, 8 individuals were selected from a local church after it was determined that they would benefit from a service like this.
In the past, the school has offered winter inspections and tire inspections to neighbors, but this will be the first-time students are giving free oil changes.
It’s the start of what it hopes will be a series of community outreach events involving its students and staff.
