SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The South Bend Common Council voted to table Councilmember Henry Davis Jr.’s resolution calling for nearly $35 million of investment into housing, planning, and infrastructure in central and western South Bend.
The resolution listed challenges faced in the 2nd district, pointing to a need for business development, public safety enhancements and increases to city services.
While the resolution was non-binding, meaning even if passed, the citywouldn'tt be required to follow through, Davis says it's a frame of reference for his eventual replacement and the needs of constituents.
“We’re dealing with some hardcore issues that people know they’re living with but the problem is they don’t know how to get them addressed,” he said. “I’m here to address them and hopefully we get to a place where people will feel more comfortable and be a lot more healthier in the environment they live in.”
He also requests that ARP funds be used as a financial resource in helping address these concerns, though again, the council did not take up the measure.
