SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend honored the lives of the 'Smith Six' a week ago today.
The six children were killed in a horrific house fire last month.
The only survivor was their father, David Smith.
Lynn Coleman tells me he has spoken with the children's father, David Smith, who's missing his children dearly right now.
In the wake of that fire, multiple accounts were created to gather donations for the Smith family, but Coleman says the First Source Bank fund offers the most secure platform for donating money.
Anyone can help support the Smith family by making donations at any first source bank location.
Coleman explains that several community leaders came together to initiate the fund, and money can only be moved around with the committee's approval.
He says only when they receive a valid bill relating to the fire, will money be given out.
“That money will not be given to just anyone, just because they said they are part of the family and they want some money, that's not what the money was raised for, and we will do to make sure that we respect this community's giving," said Coleman.
They are accepting donations up till the end of this month.
