SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- On Tuesday, the Food Bank of Northern Indiana in South Bend welcomed 566 pounds of free pork, equivalent to two thousand meals.
The donation is a result of a philanthropic partnership between the Indiana Pork Board and the Cubs, and because the team is so popular and sold so many pork tenderloins or BBQ, that upped the donation.
Jeanette Merritt, Commutation Director of Indiana Pork, stated "Excited to be at the Food Bank of Northern Indiana to donate 500 ground 500 pounds of ground pork, or 2000 meals to the community here in south bend. This is a partnership that we did with the South Bend cubs baseball team over the summer for every pork item they sold in one of their concession stands, we said we would donate a ground pork meal to the food bank. So they blew it out of the water. Had a huge donation, huge turnout to their games, and so we're able to capitalize on that here today, come to the food bank and give back to the community."
