Community raises funds for Mishawaka officer diagnosed with breast cancer

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The South Bend Fire Department announced a check for $7,000 was presented to Mishawaka police officer Megan Borrelli and her family on Tuesday night at the South Bend Firefighters Local 362 meeting.

Borrelli was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and SBFD was able to gather community donations to help support her and her husband Alex, a South Bend firefighter, as treatment begins.

The couple has three young boys.

SBFD announced Modern Woodmen also matched donations up to $2,500, and the Tom Jozwiak Fund contributed an extra $1,000.
