Concord East Side food service manager showcases culinary creativity
Concord East Side Elementary ELKHART, Ind. -- Students and staff at Concord East Side Elementary were welcomed with the warm aromas of a homemade Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, November 20, thanks to the dedication of Food Service Manager Katalina "Kat" Hochsteler.
Known for her commitment to providing fresh, healthy meals that meet USDA guidelines, Hochsteler went above and beyond to bring comfort and nutrition to the school community.
Arriving before dawn, she spent hours preparing a full holiday feast from scratch. The menu featured fluffy homemade rolls, creamy mashed potatoes, seasoned turkey, and slices of perfectly spiced pumpkin pie.
For many students, it was their first taste of a traditional Thanksgiving meal this season.
“Kat has truly come full circle, first as a student, then, years later, returning as an employee," said Dyana Bitting, Director of Food Service at Concord. “She’s here because of her love of cooking, but also because her love for the students means everything to her. Making sure they have the best meals possible is her priority and finding items the students enjoy is one of her goals.”
Hochstetler's culinary creativity and commitment to serving up fresh, delicious meals at Concord East Side ensures students have access to nutritious options, believing that healthy food fuels learning and helps students feel cared for. Her efforts have made her a beloved figure in the school cafeteria.
