Congress gives taxpayers an early Christmas present

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congress gave taxpayers an early Christmas present on Thursday!

Late Thursday afternoon, House Republicans agreed to a short-term extension of the payroll tax cut.

The GOP had been holding out on a year-long extension.

Earlier on Thursday, President Obama slammed Republicans, and urged them to compromise.

After the holidays, the Senate will appoint members to negotiate with the house on a long-term deal.
