Construction begins on roundabout at Ironwood and Auten
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Sandbags and stakes mark the road closure at the intersection of Ironwood Drive and Auten Road where a roundabout is going in.
While many drivers are unhappy about the detour, others think it will help alleviate congestion.
"Every day to work I take Ironwood all the way down and now I got to go all the way around. It’s adding a good 10 to 15 minutes to my drive,” said Ray Byrd, Niles resident.
Byrd calls the roadblock an inconvenience and isn't looking forward to the finished product.
"We don't find it annoying at all. We had plenty of notice so we just take the detour. We don't think it's a big deal. We actually are glad that it’s happening because down there on that corner it’s very congested,” said Tina McLean.
