UPDATE: Convicted felon sentenced after pleading guilty to stealing hardwood walnut tree
UPDATE: Cass County Prosecutor Victor A. Fitz announced Trever Wallace was sentenced Friday morning to 38 months to 10 years in prison Criminal Concealment of a fully mature walnut tree.
Court documents state Wallace was found with the tree at an area lumber yard on Dec. 21, 2024.
Cass County Assistant Prosecutor Jason Ronning asked for Wallace to receive prison time, pointing out Wallace's nine prior felony convictions and two misdemeanor convictions.
Wallace is expected to be taken to the Michigan Department of Corrections intake center in Jackson, Mich. in the next few days.
ORIGINAL STORY: CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- Cass County Prosecutor Victor A. Fitz announced Tuesday that convicted felon Trevor Wallace was set to have a trial that morning for a felony charge of concealing stolen property over $1,000, habitual third offense, but before jury selection was set to begin, Wallace pled guilty as charged.
The property in the case was a fully mature, hardwood walnut tree said to be valued at around $2,000.
Wallace's current plea is his 10th felony conviction to go with two misdemeanor crimes on his record.
Wallace's previous felony convictions include three prior home invasions, a breaking and entering conviction, and a possession of burglary tools offense.
Other convictions include resisting police officers and at least one drug crime.
Wallace faces up to 10 years in prison for his current conviction of property concealment, habitual third.
A habitual fourth enhancement was dismissed.
Wallace's sentencing is set for Oct. 10, at 8:30 a.m.
