Convicted sex offender charged with Unlawful Entry of Concord High School

ELKHART, Ind. -- A convicted sex offender was charged with Unlawful Entry of School Property by Serious Sex Offender as a Level 6 Felony for entering Concord High School Friday, Dec. 5.

On Friday, Dec. 5, Vic Newbern Jr., a 34-year-old convicted sex offender, was observed attending a school basketball game inside Concord High School by a detective.

Later, the detective handcuffed Newbern, and he was transported to the Elkhart County Jail. According to the Probable Cause Affidavit, Newbern stated that the game he went to was his nephew's and that he should not have gone.

Newbern is notably not allowed on school property after having been convicted of rape on July 5, 2012. Newbern later registered as a sex offender with the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office on Jan. 6, 2025.

Newbern's initial hearing has been set for Friday, Dec. 19.
