NEW CARLISLE, Ind. – Firefighters an emergency crews worked for hours Saturday afternoon to contain a spreading fire at Scrap Metal Services located at 54450 Smilax Road.
15 units from six different departments responded to the scene around 2:47 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Neighbors say that this was the second fire within the past two weeks, but the sixth fire in the last two years.
The fire reportedly started in a scrap yard and spread to a nearby building.
Officials say there is a slight environmental concern because rubber and metal pieces were charred.
No injuries were reported.
Penn fire crews say some of the equipment at SMS is a total loss and the company will not reopen until that vital equipment is replaced.
