ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. -- The man who was accused of assaulting the mother of his children, taking the children and threatening to harm them was arraigned Friday on seven charges.

Fernando Cruz, 37, allegedly took his three children from their Pioneer Street home Wednesday evening after assaulting their mother.

He threatened to harm them and himself, reports said.

Cruz is facing three counts of kidnapping, fleeing police, carrying a concealed weapon, domestic violence and felony firearm.

An AMBER Alert was issued early Thursday morning for the three children, 2-year-old Aldo Cruz, 4-year-old Matteo Nieves, and 5-year-old Chelsey Lopez.
