Deputy visiting middle school saves choking student

While attending an International Peace Day breakfast at Lakeland Middle School Wednesday morning, a La Grange County deputy helped save a student, according to the La Grange County Sheriff's Department.

The program and breakfast were organized by the student council.

Caleb Eash was eating breakfast when food became lodged in his throat. He walked away from the table to get help when Corporal Cliff Hibbs noticed he was choking.

Corporal Hibbs performed the Heimlich maneuver and dislodged the food in Caleb's throat.

Caleb was evaluated by the nurse and was allowed to resume classes for the day - after taking photos with Corporal Hibbs.
