Dog park officially opens in downtown South Bend

The dog park in downtown South Bend officially opened after a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning.

The park is on N. Niles Avenue between Corby Boulevard and Crescent Avenue.

The property was purchased by a local developer who is leasing it to the South Bend Parks Department for $1 a year.

South Bend Parks installed benches and obstacles for dogs to play with, and has installed a new fence to separate areas for big and small dogs.

Parks also has bags on hand to encourage owners to clean up after their pets.
