Driver in fatal crash sentenced to 14 years

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A driver has been sentenced for a fatal crash that killed a 60-year-old woman who was headed home from bible study, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office.

Alan Tarchala has been sentenced to two years for causing serious bodily injury when operating a vehicle with a schedule I or II substance in the body, 2 years for possession of methamphetamine and 10 years for causing death when operating a motor vehicle with a schedule I or II controlled substance in the blood. The sentences will run consecutively for a total of 14 years.

The crash happened January 26 in the area of Bremen Highway and Petro Drive.

Investigators said Tarchala's Jeep was traveling southbound when he lost control, crossed the center line and struck another vehicle head on.

Sherry Amiel, 60, was killed in the crash. Her daughter, who was driving, suffered serious injuries in the crash.

I hope and pray that you are haunted every second of ever day that you breath for killing my cousin. 14 yrs is not enough time for what you did. Our family has to live without her and the memories of what you did. When someone ends another’s person’s life then you should loose your privilege of living life too.
Considering you only got 14 yrs I hope and pray that you use those year wisely and never be this horrible person again. I worked for years in the prison and I see how bad the inmates act. So use the facility for what it is meant for and actually REHABILITATE yourself to be a better person
