Elkhart Co. Homicide Unit asking for tips in fatal shooting of juvenile

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is asking for the public's help in the investigation into the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy.

On May 1, Elkhart Police were dispatched to the area of the 1000 block of McKinley Avenue for reports of shots fired. In a nearby alley, they located a 15-year-old with gunshot wounds.

He was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, then to an Indianapolis hospital.

The victim died on May 4.

Investigators say the witnesses to the shooting are not cooperating.

Initial reports said the victim was 14, but police have confirmed he was 15-years-old.
