Elkhart Community Schools approves Michele A. Riise as next superintendent
Elkhart Community Schools ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Community Schools Board of Trustees has approved Michele A. Riise as the district’s next Superintendent, following career spanning more than 38 years in public education.
Riise currently serves as Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools for ECS and will assume the superintendent role effective July 1.
Riise brings extensive experience as a teacher, principal, central office leader, and superintendent, with a proven record of improving student achievement, strengthening instructional systems, and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
“As Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Instruction, Riise has demonstrated exceptional leadership in advancing student learning, supporting principals and teachers, and aligning instructional practices with district goals,” said the Board of Trustees. “Her deep understanding of Elkhart Community Schools and her student-centered vision make her the right leader for our district’s future.”
In her current role, Riise provides district-wide leadership for elementary instructional programs, oversees principals and instructional leaders, manages budgets and resources, and leads initiatives designed to close achievement gaps and improve outcomes for all learners.
Prior to joining Elkhart Community Schools, Riise served as Assistant Superintendent of Academics, Human Resources, and Operations and previously as Superintendent of Schools for two school districts.
Riise holds an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership, a Master of Science in Education Administration, and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with an endorsement in kindergarten, all from Purdue University. She also holds certification as a Director of Exceptional Learners and remains actively engaged in professional learning related to instructional improvement, district strategic planning, financial stewardship, and innovative educational practices.

Riise is an active member of the Indiana Association of Public-School Superintendents (IAPSS), the Indiana Association of School Principals, (IASP), the Indiana School Boards Association (ISBA), and the American Association of School Administrators (AASA).
