ELKHART, Ind. – The Elkhart Fire Chief on Tuesday spoke about plans on growing the fire department and how it will benefit the city.
Fire Chief Steve Kamp spoke on his ideas regarding the expansion, including plans for better response times.
"As the city grows to the northeast as it has towards the County Road 17 area, we see a definite need to go ahead and maybe add a fire station and some personnel to that area to better serve the community," Kamp said.
There are also discussions of adding more staff members and implementing updated safety and risk management plans.
Also being proposed as part of the expansion is a new training facility.
The cost of the expansion has yet to be determined.
