ELKHART, Ind. – 27-year-old Joseph Banks of Elkhart was transported to the hospital on Saturday after police say that he drove into three parked cars at the intersection of old U.S. 33 and 27th Street.
Banks sustained several injuries, including facial lacerations, a fractured pelvis and a puncture wound to his lower abdomen.
The accident occurred just west of Elkhart city limits at about 6:15 a.m.
Banks was driving eastbound on Old U.S. 33 when he went off the south side of the roadway and drove through a fence and struck the three cars. Then, he ran over a sign before pulling over at the side of the road.
The vehicles were unoccupied at the time of the accident.
Banks was wearing a seat belt.
Officers determined that Banks failed to reduce his speed ahead of the curve.
Officials are saying that alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
Banks was cited for driving too fast for the road conditions.
