ELKHART, Ind. – Mayor Tim Neese announced Monday night that Elkhart Police Department's chief Ed Windbigler has resigned.
Windbigler resigned at the request of the mayor and his resignation will be effective starting Dec. 10th.
“This was a difficult decision, and after much consideration, I have decided to seek new leadership of the Elkhart Police Department,” said Neese. “I appreciate Ed’s service to the Police Department and our community, and I wish him the very best.”
According to the City of Elkhart's news release, assistant chief Todd Thayer will continue serving as interim chief until a replacement has been found.
Windbigler has been the Police Department's Chief for close to three years after being appointed by Neese in January 2016.
