Elkhart Police distributing body cams to officers

Over the past several months the Elkhart Police Department has been distributing body cameras to officers.

The tiny cameras are only activated when police are in contact with the community.

Depending on the nature of the call, officers have the option to leave them off.

"We handed out about 8 or 10 the first go around and then as any bugs were worked out with those we handed out an additional 8, 10, 15 and today I believe we'll be at the end of issuing them to all of our patrol officers and then some of the officers that are in our specialty units," said Sergeant Chris Snyder of the Elkhart Police Department.

Elkhart Police said they experienced a few issues with getting the recordings onto the server, but those problems have been fixed.
