Elkhart police officers involved in fatal shooting
ELKHART, Ind. -- Indiana State Police are investigating a shooting involving Elkhart City Police officers. Sunday afternoon police shot and killed a burglary suspect.
The man was killed on the porch of a house in the 300 block of West Lusher Avenue.
"The cops came running up telling, us we need to get in the house, somebody’s running around with a gun. Two seconds later I heard the gunshots," said a woman who did not want to be identified.
Police say it started a couple blocks over on Hubbard Street, where police say two men burglarized a home.
One suspect was arrested but the other one cut through alleys and ran between houses, leaving a few clues, along the way.
"I looked over beside my house and there’s a pair of shoes there and a blue and white jacket and in my mind I said that doesn’t belong there," said Paul Parson, who found the suspect's clothes on his property.
Neighbors say they have noticed some recent changes in the neighborhood.
According to Parson, "In the last 4 - 6 weeks there’s been more activity going on there some bigger fancier cars, more people, so whatever’s been going on there in that house has started within the last 4 - 6 weeks."
Police say they will release names of the suspects and officers involved within 48 hours.
