SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A game changing gift from an Amazon billionaire right here in Michiana.
La Casa de Amistad received a $2,000,000 grant from philanthropist Mackenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos, a fraction of her latest $640,000,000 of giveaways.

A standing ovation as Executive Director Juan Constantino announced the largest grant in the non-profit's history.
They were ranked among the top recipients, even as more than six thousand organizations applied.
La Casa de Amistad works to empower works to empower the Latino community through bilingual education, cultural enrichment, and advocacy.
Mayor James Mueller says it’s a win for the entire community,
“It's critical for us. So to get these resources, you don't see come around all the time...and it's great for South Bend and particularly, La Casa de Amistad is the winner here,” said Mueller.
The non-profit says they do not know exactly what they will do with the grant just yet, but are excited to continue to serve even more members of the community as the Latino population grows.
"We just celebrated 50 years and we are looking forward to the next 50,” said Constantino.
