BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- An early morning fire heavily damaged a barn Friday morning in Berrien County and killed several farm animals.
Officials say they were called out to a barn in Sawyer, near Snow and Browntown Roads, just before 5:30 a.m.
Due to the extensive damage, the barn had to be torn down.
Although several llamas, a peacock and chickens died, some animals managed to be rescued, including two horses.
“By the time we were able to do anything, it was so totally involved, there was absolutely no way that anybody could go inside to try and get the other animals out,” Chief Mike Davidson said.
No firefighters were injured during this fire.
Officials are still investigating what sparked the fire to begin, and they do not suspect any foul play.
