Firefighters replace signs for missing IU student

BLOOMINGON, Ind. -- Bloomington firefighters are re-building 20 tattered signs to help find a missing IU student.

Twenty-year-old Lauren Spierer disappeared in June 2011after a night out with friends.

The signs were put up around Bloomington two years ago but many had faded or fallen apart.

The signs feature Lauren’s picture, a description, phone number and website.

"After two years, people tend to forget," said Lee Chapman, Bloomington Firefighter. "This is not just going to be up for this weekend or a month from now. We'll maintain them for as long as it takes."

The community donated most of the materials.

Meantime, investigators are working to identify remains found last week in Brown County.

Police say they have been there for at least two years.
