First eaglet hatches at St. Patrick’s County Park

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – The first eaglet hatched this morning at St. Patrick’s County Park, St. Joseph County Parks announced today on Facebook.

The eaglet hatched after a pip was seen in the egg on Saturday. A pip is the first hole made by the eaglet in the shell, the Facebook post said.

Eaglets have a sharp “egg tooth” on the tip of their upper beak for this reason. It can take between 24 to 48 hours for an eaglet to emerge after making the first pip, the post said.
