Those who knew and loved her have now made it possible for that help and encouragement to continue, with the Jennifer Copeland Memorial Scholarship.
Michiana lost beloved ABC57 News anchor Jennifer Copeland to a rare and aggressive form of ovarian cancer at the age of 46 in October 2024.
On May 13 this year, we celebrated the life, and now legacy, of our beloved anchor Jennifer Copeland. The South Bend Cubs' 11/11 club hosted the first annual dinner and silent auction fundraiser for the new memorial scholarship fund.
And the first winner of this scholarship was Meghan Freitag, a senior at Riley High School. Meghan is editor of the school newspaper, senior class president, has a 4.0 grade point average, and is heading to Butler University in the fall.
In addition, there was a silent auction featuring new luxury suites at Four Winds Field, original artwork featuring the legendary four horsemen of Notre Dame, donations from local restaurants and shops, and more. And we are happy to report we raised nearly $70 thousand dollars for the scholarship fund.
ABC57 would like to thank all the sponsors, supporters, donors, friends and Jen's family for making it all happen.
At the dinner last night, pictures of Jen ---over the years---from childhood to family candids and highlights from her journalism career were part of a touching tribute video, included in the video here.
If you would like to help us honor Jennifer's memory and support the next generation of local journalists, donations are welcome at GiveGrove.
