We know that the cold has to get here sometime. Gone are the 70-degree high temperatures that Michiana saw earlier this week, now replaced with 50s, rain and wind.
Soon, some snowflakes could mix in, too.
As the coldest air of the season settles in to start next week, some could see a brief taste of a wintry mix during the cold morning hours. This most likely won't have any impacts to travel but might just put a damper on morale.
Typically, our first measurable snowfall arrives in the middle of November. So, it's unlikely that we see any snow stick anytime soon. However, it wasn't that long ago that South Bend's first measurable snowfall occurred in the month of October. Just three years ago, parts of Michiana had a "white Halloween."
If temperatures can remain below normal for the rest of October, it's possible that we see our first measurable snowfall sooner rather than later.
