Former BHAS Superintendent Butts finds new home at Burr Oak

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- After stepping down as Superintendent of Benton Harbor Area Schools in late March, Dr. Kelvin Butts was announced as the newest superintendent for Burr Oak Community Schools last week.
"At a special meeting of the Burr Oak Board of Education held on June 16, the board voted unanimously to begin contract negotiations with Dr. Kelvin Butts to become the district’s next Superintendent of Schools," A Burr Oak Community Schools spokesperson said.
"Dr. Butts is currently the Superintendent of Benton Harbor Area Schools. It is anticipated that Dr. Butts will begin working with the district on July 1. The board deeply appreciates the involvement of staff, students, and community members in the search process."
Butts agreed to a five-year $145,000 contract.
"We are excited about the broad array of knowledge Dr. Butts will bring to our district and look forward to the impact that he will have on our students and our community," BOSC said.
Burr Oak in a school district in St. Joseph County Michigan, about 90 miles east of Benton Harbor.
On Tuesday, June 25, BHAS held a community meet and greet Tuesday evening in the Benton Harbor High School Library for the three final candidates in the district’s search for the next superintendent.
They say they hope to have a final decision by July 8.
