Former correctional officer pleads guilty

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A St. Joseph County Jail correctional officer has pleaded guilty to trafficking with an inmate and official misconduct, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office.

Two theft counts and another count of official misconduct were dismissed.

Trevor Reynolds was a St. Joseph County correctional officer when he stole money from an inmate's debit release card.

According to court documents, on March 18, 2013, Reynolds ran an inmate's jail-issued debit card, but it did not process. Reynolds called an 800-number and learned the remaining credit balance was $556.23.

Reynolds did not tell the inmate the balance on the card was greater than the amount necessary to post bond.

Reynolds has been ordered to pay restitution to the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Departmetn in the amount of $556.23 by September 25 to reimburse the department for the payment made to the victim.

Sentencing is set for September 25.
