Frigid tonight, Snowy tomorrow

ABC57 First Warning Neighborhood Weather Forecast

Saturday, January 24th, 2026

A Winter Weather Advisory will go into effect this evening at 7PM for all of Michiana until 1AM on Monday. Fortunately, Michiana is on the outskirts of the large winter storm off to our south. However, we will continue to experience dangerously cold temperatures and treacherous travel conditions, especially on Sunday. Light snow begins tonight but could be slow to develop with dry air present. By Sunday morning, there likely won't be a ton of snow accumulated; but the heaviest of the snow will fall during the day on Sunday. Snow will be dry and powdery, so blowing and drifting snow is possible.

In regards, to snow totals, the greater Michiana area is expected to receive 3-6 inches of snow while some areas near Michigan City and LaPorte could receive a little more, thanks to lake effect snow bands. Tuesday, temperatures try to warm but only to the 20s—lows near or at zero degrees. The "warm up" is halted by another round of potential snow showers midweek.

Be sure to bundle up if you must go outside. If you don't need to go out tonight and tomorrow, don't. Travel will be difficult, likely through Monday. Bring pets inside and check in on relatives and friends in these frigid and snowy conditions.

Tonight: Snow picks up, frigid. Wind chills well below zero. Low 4.
