Goshen Public Library celebrates 125 years of service

Goshen Public Library

GOSHEN, Ind. -- Goshen Public Library will celebrate 125 years of service to the Goshen community with an open house and other special events in their auditorium from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 15

The library was founded through the efforts of several women’s literary clubs, who generated public interest in a library that led to the incorporation of the Goshen Library Association. Members of the library association petitioned philanthropist Andrew Carnegie for funding to build a library, and $15,000 was granted for this purpose on Jan. 15, 1901, making Goshen Public Library the first library in Indiana to receive funding from Mr. Carnegie.

From its early beginnings as one of the more than 1,600 public libraries funded by Andrew Carnegie to current resources and services, Goshen Public Library continues to grow and change with the needs of the community.

Take a walk through the library’s history through photos, historical objects, and more at the open house.

Other special programming throughout the month includes a golden ticket hunt, the 1-2-5 Kids & Families Challenge, an apparel sale fundraiser, and more. To learn more, visit goshenpl.org/125.
