Governor Mike Braun announces special session to redistrict Indiana mid-decade
Governor Mike Braun INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The office of Indiana Governor Mike Braun has announced that, on Monday, Governor Braun will sign a proclamation calling a special legislative session for General Assembly to convene on Monday, Nov. 3.
The special legislative session will be for the sake of considering changing the boundaries of Indiana's congressional districts.
In a statement, Governor Braun says, “I am calling a special legislative session to protect Hoosiers from efforts in other states that seek to diminish their voice in Washington and ensure their representation in Congress is fair."
In response, State Democrats called the announced session "illegitimate", with Senate Democratic Leader Shelli Yoder (D-Bloomington) stating, "This is not democracy. This is desperation," and calling the push to redraw maps mid-decade "An orchestrated attack on democracy itself. There is no new census, no court order, and no support from the public."
The session will also cover a discussion about an issue with federal and state tax compliance after the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
To that note, Governor Braun further states, "I am also asking the legislature to conform Indiana's tax code with new federal tax provisions to ensure stability and certainty for taxpayers and tax preparers for 2026 filings.”
