Applications are still open for Indiana's grant-based Pre-k program ahead of the 2023 school year.

On My Way Pre-K gives 4-year-olds from low-income families a chance at high-quality Pre-K education all for free!

Almost 400 grants were given out in Elkhart and St. Joseph counties last year.

Close to 50 grants each were also given out in LaPorte and Marshall counties.

Lots of applications are always received from the more populated counties like those.

The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration encourages families from surrounding counties like Starke, LaGrange, Fulton and Pulaski to also take advantage of this opportunity.

A family of 4 must make less than $45,000 a year to qualify, which is a big jump from the previous max of $34,000.

With programs available in homes, centers, ministries and schools, parents can choose the best option for them.

The program offers family engagement activities and keeps you informed on your child’s progress along the way.

While it’s not required in Indiana, preschool can help better prepare your kids for kindergarten.

It helps children develop important social and learning skills they can take with them to kindergarten. It also helps them gain a sense of independence and confidence in themselves.

Preschool teachers are able to really nurture a child’s curiosity early on as well, sparking love and excitement for learning that will hopefully follow students throughout their academic journeys.

Studies from both Purdue University and the University of Chicago showed that students in the program were more prepared for kindergarten and performed better on I-Learn and other standardized tests.
