SAN DIEGO, Calif. ---- In an effort to make their streets safer, San Diego Police initiated their "Guns for Gift Cards" program.
The program triggered a huge response from the community as hundreds waited in line to ditch their unwanted firearms for a gift card.
With 150 guns in the area stolen during various robberies, San Diego Police say that this is a great solution.
"It's all about the unwanted, unsecured guns people don't know what to do with them," said San Diego Police Chief Shelly Zimmerman.
Those who brought in pistols, rifles, and shotguns received $100 gift cards and those with "assault" rifles received $200 gift cards.
