Health officials investigating E. coli cases affecting children at daycare

Heath officials in Fulton and Wabash counties and state health officials are investigating an outbreak of E. coli among children who attend a daycare in Fulton County.

According to the Fulton County Health Department all of the confirmed cases of E. coli 0157 are associated with the daycare.

According to the Indiana State Department of Health, they are investigating a total of five cases of possible E. coli 0157:H7 infection.

Two of those cases have been confirmed positives. One case was in Fulton County and one was in Wabash County.

The ISDH is investigating reports of a patient death, but says there's no conclusive evidence linking it to other cases and they ware working to determine if there are links to other cases and sources of exposure.

People contract E. coli by coming in contact with contaminated food or water or contact with animals or infected people.
