High school students help elementary students plant fruit trees

Penn High School biology students took a field trip to Horizon Elementary on Thursday to help plant fruit trees in the elementary school's garden.

The sophomore biology students helped Horizon's second graders plant the trees.

It's part of a project called Giving Trees.

The trees will be harvested when they bear fruit.

Organizers say they want to provide educational opportunities to the community and teach people about sustainability.

This was just the first phase of the project. Students will continue planting trees there through next spring

The Penn-Harris-Madison Education Foundation partially funded the project.
