Historic house relocation focus of Studebaker Museum Speaker Series Aug. 20

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Studebaker National Museum will spotlight South Bend’s long tradition of moving houses and structures during its next Speaker Series program.
Ross Van Overberghe and Kate Himick of the Historic Preservation Commission of St. Joseph County will lead the presentation, which explores the city’s rich history of structure relocation. The talk will cover notable relocated homes, the economics of moving buildings, historic and modern technologies, and the role of relocation in preservation today.
Though often seen as a product of modern technology, the practice of relocating houses has deep roots in South Bend and across the United States.
The event will be held in the Wiekamp Auditorium as part of the Studebaker Museum Speaker Series, presented by the Campisi Family Education Fund. Admission is $2, while museum and campus members are admitted free.
