A kitchen fire sparked at a Union, Mich. home early Friday morning, but it's the post-rescue story that might just warm your heart.
Porter Twp. fire fighters were called out to the 71000 block of Spencer Rd. around 2:30 a.m. The fire was mostly contained to the kitchen area, and crews were able to douse the flames quickly.
The homeowner wasn't alone; inside the house and yard area, fire fighters also rescued a dozen animals, including 9 puppies in need of new homes. Some of the puppies are just six weeks old.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
