Canadian wildfire smoke prompts precautions at South Bend Cubs...
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Window AC units are working overtime in these hot and humid conditions. The hazards are just as concerning. One AC unit burst into flames at the South Bend nursing home on Sunday.
Firefighters confirmed they rushed to the West Bend Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on West Washington Street. The AC unit was in a window in the building's rec room, as the sprinkler system kept the flames contained, but the room was damaged by water.
One thing to help lower the fire risk is to stay on top of preventative maintenance. That includes swapping out the air filter every few months.
Another thing you can do is unplug any appliances that don't need to be plugged in when you're not using them.
