Illinois clinic called out by veterans affairs

PEORIA, Ill. -- Hundreds of V.A. clinics and hospitals were called out for problems with their facilities. A clinic in Illinois was one of them.

The Department of Veteran Affairs is investigating the Bob Michael Clinic in Peoria.

At this time there are no details released about the problems there.

One veteran said he once waited more than a month for an appointment.

A doctor there said the clinic needs help.

"Given the seriousness of the mental health issues that we see, the you know, the epidemic of suicides in the country and so forth, yeah I would be, I think misleading if I said we couldn't use more help," says Dexter Hazlewood, Chief of Community Based Outpatient Clinics.

The doctor said the issues in the larger scandal are not the norm for all.

He said he is open to any suggestions from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
