SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Saturday marked the 10th annual Indiana Black Expo Back to School Rally.
Several students from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade were able to come out and receive school supplies!
The rally was held at Greater Saint John Missionary Baptist Church.
Organizers say the event is important to prepare students on the west side of town for the school year, making sure they are ready with the supplies they need.
"There are a number of other events going on across the city, but on the west side, we wanted to make sure we did something here for the people that can walk to the facility," says Linda Johnson, an organizer of the Back to School Rally. "It helps low-income families. You know, it helps take some of the load off of the parents, because we don't supply everything they need, but we try to supply a lot of things that they will need."
The rally also offered free refreshments and activities for students to enjoy in their last few days of summer vacation.
