Indiana soldier killed by roadside bomb returns home

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The body of a fallen Indiana soldier returned home on Monday.

32-year-old Staff Sergeant David Nowacyzk was killed this month in Afghanistan when a bomb hit his humvee.

His body arrived at the Gary-Chicago airport Monday morning.

Then, the Indiana Patriot Guard provided an escort to the funeral home.

"It's been very stressful on the family. We are hoping to be able to give them better memories," said Dale Ready of the Patriot Guard.

The soldier is survived by his wife and two kids.

He was highly decorated -- earning two Bronze Star medals and a Purple Heart.

This was his third deployment to Afghanistan.
