Indiana State Police warn about scammers imitating troopers

Indiana State Police are warning residents statewide about a recent phone scam in which callers imitate state troopers and threaten arrest if a payment isn’t made.

The scammer uses a caller ID showing "Indiana State Police" with the number 317-232-8248.

The scammer identifies themselves as an ISP trooper and tells the citizen they have drug charges pending in Texas and need money.

State troopers would never call and ask for/demand payment for any reason.

The easiest way to protect yourself is to either ignore calls from unknown sources or hang up when something seems wrong.

If you think you've been a victim of a scam, report the incident to local law enforcement and your bank immediately.
