Indiana Toll Road issues wind ban

INDIANA -- The Indiana Toll Road issued a wind ban Thursday from 5 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory affecting drivers beginning at the WestPoint Toll Plaza (MP 0) through South Bend West Toll Plaza (MP 72).

Truck drivers are not allowed to travel this stretch of road towing double or triple trailers.

Officials who issued the wind advisory predict northwest sustained winds from 25 mph to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph.

As this weather event develops, travel is expected to become increasingly difficult and dangerous.

A High Wind Warning is issued by the National Weather Service when sustained winds are forecast to be 30 to 39 mph or gusts that range between 45 and 57 mph.

Winds of this force can cause also property damage if precautions are not taken.

Drivers in high profile SUVs and trucks should use caution until the winds subside.
