SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend's Saint Patrick's Day Parade may be postponed, but the city is showing Irish pride starting today.
The intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Niles Avenue has been temporarily renamed to 'Saint Patrick's Day Boulevard', where the traditional downtown South Bend Saint Patrick's Day Parade takes place every year.
"You know, South Bend has a great diversity throughout the city. People from all nations have come here, and we like to celebrate all of our diversity. And this is just a way to celebrate the Irish community and what they've done for the city," stated South Bend City Councilman Troy Warner.
This is the 25th year the city is hosting celebrations in honor of Saint Patrick's Day, with the greening of the East Race taking place immediately after the parade next Saturday, March 22 at 11 a.m.
