Local woman arrested with alarming amount of "powerful sedative" Xylazine

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Police Department reports the Warrants Division with help from the U.S. Marshals Service conducted a fugitive investigation on May 2 in the 1500 block of Marietta Street in South Bend.
During the investigation, police say 35-year-old Ashley Ann Wardlow, who was wanted for Possession of Meth and Possession of a Narcotic Drug, was found and arrested.
The report states officers discovered over a pound of substance containing a dangerous combination of suspected cocaine and Xylazine.
Wardlow was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail and faces additional charges, including Possession of a Narcotic Drug and Possession of Cocaine.
Formal charges have been filed against her.
"Our department has been monitoring this growing threat across the country, but this is the first time our team has seen such a large quantity in our own backyard," the SJCP said.
Police say Xylazine is a powerful sedative often mixed with opioids, but unlike opioids, Xylazine doesn't respond to Narcan which is commonly used to reverse overdoses.
Police are urging everyone in the community to stay aware, talk to their loved ones, and know the risks. Police ask that if you see something suspicious, to report it.
