There is a warning out about a new scam that's leaving some social security recipients short on cash.

Investigators warn after identity thieves get personal information, they're fraudulently rerouting the benefits to their own bank accounts.

The scam is becoming popular, just as the social security administration prepares to switch all beneficiaries, to direct deposit, instead of mailing paper checks.
